Since day one, gardening enthusiasts and the surrounding community have been passionate about Heronswood and have looked for ways to help with restoration goals. Weed, Walk, & Talk is a volunteer event that provides a little education and fun for those willing to give a little of their time. This event is scheduled on the second Wednesday and the fourth Saturday of each month under the direction of co-founder, Dan Hinkley. The day includes hands on fun in the Garden and, time and weather permitting, either a presentation related to horticulture or a walk through the Garden with discussions on what is observed. These volunteer work days run from 9am to 3pm and there is no charge.
Volunteers should bring their own gloves, their preferred hand tool, a bagged lunch and water bottle. We will provide coffee, tea and a light snack. New volunteers will be asked to sign a liability waiver and to provide an emergency contact before working in the Garden. The work we are doing requires the ability to kneel, bend, reach, and have good balance. We request that you are in good physical condition. At this time, we do not have any standing activities for volunteers.
