Learning Botanical Latin, with Dr. Ross Bayton
A Lunchbreak Lecture.
Struggling with Sarcococca? Confused by Cardiocrinum? Mix up Myrtus and Myrsine? You are not alone. Botanical Latin is the language of plant names, but for many gardeners, it is difficult to pronounce, spell and remember.
Heronswood assistant director Dr. Ross Bayton, author of The Gardener’s Botanical: An Encyclopedia of Latin Names, will help you decipher this language. When you understand what the names mean, not only are they easier to remember, but they often reveal useful information on your plants’ origins, appearance, and how to care for them.
This is an online event which will be held via Zoom. Details will be shared after registration.
